Leon Thomas nominated for 2026 Grammy Album of the Year

Singer-songwriter Leon Thomas has been nominated for Album of the Year at the 2026 Grammys for his sophomore album 'MUTT.' The project blends Jazz, Neo-Soul, and Rock influences, marking a confident step in his career post-Nickelodeon. The ceremony is set for February 1, 2026, in Los Angeles.

Album Overview

'MUTT,' released in 2024, is Leon Thomas' follow-up to his debut 'Electric Dusk.' Drawing from artists like Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin, the 14-track album features layered instrumentation and vocals that showcase Thomas' production skills. In an Essence interview, Thomas shared, “This album is me stepping into my confidence. It was a tough journey getting into music out of Nickelodeon during my twenties, but now, in my thirties, I’m showing people that I know what I’m doing—and I’m having a good time doing it.”

Collaborations play a central role, with tracks like “Lucid Dreams” featuring Masego and “Feelings on Silent” with Wale. Thomas noted, “The majority of the features were done with the artist in the room,” and added, “Every collaboration is a new class,” highlighting his learning approach.

Thomas, a former Broadway and Nickelodeon child star, has writing and production credits with Freddie Gibbs, Post Malone, Jack Harlow, Drake, and SZA. He co-produced SZA’s “Snooze,” which won Best R&B Song at the 2024 Grammys.
