Authorities in eastern Libya released the ten activists detained a month ago on Tuesday night. Alicia Armesto is already traveling back to Spain.
The Global Sumud Flotilla confirmed the release of the ten members of the Global Sumud Land Caravan held since 24 May by security forces linked to General Khalifa Haftar.
Alicia Armesto, one of the activists, is making a stop in Istanbul before flying to Madrid. Spain’s Foreign Ministry thanked the work of its embassies in Libya and Turkey.
Six activists, including Armesto, arrived in Istanbul to continue to their home countries. Four others were transferred to Tunisia, where the organisation demands their immediate release.
The land convoy left Mauritania, Tunisia and Algeria at the end of April with 270 people and humanitarian aid. The activists were arrested near Sirte while negotiating passage to Egypt.
