Premier League clubs opened their pre-season campaigns with mixed results across three continents. Liverpool defeated Sunderland 4-2 in Nashville while Tottenham won 2-0 against Auckland in New Zealand. Leeds lost 3-2 to Wrexham in Florida.
Andoni Iraola marked his first game in charge of Liverpool with a 4-2 win over Sunderland. An early injury to captain Joe Gomez marred the victory in Nashville, though goals from Kieran Morrison, Dominik Szoboszlai, Federico Chiesa and Lewis Koumas secured the result.
Tottenham also started strongly under Roberto De Zerbi. Dane Scarlett opened the scoring in the first half against Auckland at Eden Park, with Richarlison adding a second after half-time. New signing Matheus Fernandes featured while Sandro Tonali missed out due to a minor issue.
Leeds fell to a 3-2 defeat against Championship side Wrexham in Florida. Harry Wilson made his debut from the bench after joining from Fulham, but goals from Kieffer Moore, Bailey Cadamarteri, Sean Longstaff and Sam Smith proved decisive for the hosts.
The 2026/27 Premier League season is scheduled to begin on the weekend of Friday, August 21.
