About a day before the first round of the US Masters, Ludvig Åberg spoke to the media at Augusta National ahead of his third appearance in the major. The 26-year-old from Skåne described himself as harmonious after playing nine holes that morning on his favorite course.
Åberg has struggled with stomach issues over the past year but tests revealed gluten as the culprit. "My sister and dad are gluten intolerant, so it might be in the DNA. I feel much better without eating gluten," he said. His form is strong with three straight top-5 finishes, including second place in his debut here and seventh last year, when he briefly shared the lead on both Sundays.
In The Players a few weeks ago, he lost the lead after double water hazards and finished fifth. "I like that I positioned myself to win. It felt like I lost control for 30 minutes," Åberg reflected. At Augusta, his average score is 70.38 – only Scottie Scheffler tops it at 70.33 among the 91 players.
The 90th edition is expected to feature dry, tough conditions with fast greens. "That suits me, I play with high spin and hit the ball relatively high," Åberg said. He tees off for the first round at 19:08 Swedish time on Thursday.
