Mexico U-17 debuts in Qatar 2025 World Cup against South Korea

Mexico's U-17 team begins its campaign in the 2025 Qatar World Cup on November 3 against South Korea, led by coach Carlos Cariño. The tournament, the first with 48 teams, runs from November 3 to 27 in Doha. Mexico aims for a third title after victories in 2005 and 2011.

The 2025 men's U-17 World Cup in Qatar is a milestone, expanding to 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four. Mexico is in Group F with South Korea, Ivory Coast, and Switzerland. The top two from each group and the eight best third-placed teams advance to the round of 16 on November 14, with knockout stages decided by penalties in ties, without extra time.

The group stage runs from November 3 to 11, followed by round of 16 on the 14th, quarterfinals on the 18th, semifinals on the 24th, and final on the 27th at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha. Coach Carlos Cariño, who played in the 1997 U-20 World Cup, describes his team as 'dynamic' and intense, emphasizing group unity built during preparation. The Tri finished their tour with a 1-0 win over Tajikistan (Gael García goal in the 61st minute) and a 3-1 loss to Zambia, in 36 matches under his tenure (20 wins, three draws).

The roster features 21 players, including goalkeeper Abdon Turrubiates (León), midfielder Íñigo Borgio (CD Leganés), and forward Aldo Patricio de Nigris (Rayados), son of the club legend. Alex Aiden Gutiérrez (Cruz Azul) was ruled out due to injury, replaced by Juan Ignacio López (FC Juárez). In Mexico, matches air on ViX Premium, with some on TUDN and Canal 9.

Mexico, a historical powerhouse with titles in Peru 2005 and Mexico 2011, faces a tactically disciplined South Korea in their opener. Germany defends the 2023 crown.
