On March 17, 2026, during the Semanera conference in Culiacán, Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya announced the start of construction for the Mexinol plant, which will produce methanol, in Topolobampo port. The initiative carries an investment of roughly 3.3 billion dollars and will generate about 4,500 direct and indirect jobs. Rocha Moya noted that the first stone will be laid on April 23. These matters were discussed in a prior meeting with U.S. Consul General in Hermosillo, Drew Hoster. The governor intends to invite Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón to attend and learn about other foreign investments in the state, including Wendy’s chain expansion starting with a restaurant in Mazatlán. Discussions also covered ways to enhance marketing of Sinaloa’s agricultural and aquaculture products, raised in a national meeting with Ebrard within the T-MEC negotiation framework.
