MGM+ orders two-hour finale for Godfather of Harlem

MGM+ has decided to conclude the crime drama Godfather of Harlem with a two-hour series finale rather than producing a full fifth season. Forest Whitaker will return as Bumpy Johnson for the conclusion. Production is set to begin in July.

The network announced the move to wrap the series on its own terms. The official logline describes Bumpy Johnson facing enemies from political, criminal, and personal directions as he protects his empire and decides his legacy.

Whitaker issued a statement expressing gratitude for the role. "Playing Bumpy Johnson has been one of the greatest experiences of my career," he said. He thanked the creative team and cast for five seasons of collaboration.

Michael Wright, head of MGM+, called Whitaker's portrayal extraordinary. He said the two-hour finale honors the ambition and emotional power brought to the series. Returning cast members include Ilfenesh Hadera, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Erik LaRay Harvey, and Rome Flynn. A premiere date will be announced later.
