Michael Weatherly will reprise his role as Tony DiNozzo on NCIS for a season-long arc in the upcoming Season 24. The actor confirmed the news via a video on the show's official Instagram account. NCIS returns this fall on CBS.
Weatherly, an original cast member who starred as the brash field agent for 13 seasons until 2016, will rejoin the team next season. He previously returned briefly in Season 21 for the funeral of medical examiner Donald "Ducky" Mallard.
The actor shared the update with fans, saying, "I'll see you in the fall." NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m., followed by the new spin-off NCIS: New York.
Weatherly last appeared in the franchise in the Paramount+ series NCIS: Tony & Ziva alongside Cote de Pablo, which was canceled after one season. Separately, Mark Harmon is set to return as Gibbs in the prequel spin-off NCIS: Origins.
Questions remain about whether DiNozzo could become the team's new director following the death of Leon Vance last season. Showrunner Steven D. Binder indicated the production is open to casting opportunities for the role.
