Michigan man gets life sentence for 2024 murder

A Jackson County judge sentenced William Deandre-Kashawn Smith to life in prison without parole for the premeditated murder of Shi'Ana Gittens. The shooting occurred in January 2024 inside a home in Vandercook Lake, Michigan.

Smith, 36, was convicted in April by a jury on one count of first-degree premeditated murder. On Thursday, Judge John McBain imposed the sentence and addressed the defendant directly during the hearing.
