Mickey Rourke, the 73-year-old actor known for roles in films like 'The Wrestler,' has provided details on his decision to withhold nearly $60,000 in rent from his Los Angeles apartment, which led to his eviction.
In an interview with TMZ on March 11, 2026, Rourke explained that he stopped paying rent due to unacceptable living conditions, including ongoing rodent infestations requiring multiple exterminator visits and frequent plumbing failures in the bathroom. "The reason I stopped paying rent was because the living conditions in the apartment had become unacceptable," Rourke said. He added that he made repeated requests for repairs over months, but the issues persisted without proper resolution.
"Withholding rent was not a decision I made lightly," Rourke stated. "I simply could not continue paying for an apartment that was in such poor condition after so many attempts to have these issues corrected."
This follows earlier reports from December 2025 of an eviction notice for unpaid rent and Rourke's stay in a West Hollywood hotel with his dog starting in January 2026. Court documents show a judge issued a default judgment for possession in favor of landlord Eric Goldie, terminating the lease. The ruling did not address the back rent or Rourke's habitability claims. Rourke had already vacated by the time of the order.
A GoFundMe campaign launched by fans raised over $100,000 to assist with his rent, which Rourke publicly rejected as 'embarrassing' and disavowed any involvement, leading to funds being returned.
