Missing berry picker in Jukkasjärvi found alive

A man in his 80s who disappeared Sunday evening in Jukkasjärvi outside Kiruna has been found alive after almost a day.

A large search operation took place in a forest area just north of Jukkasjärvi. The man last had contact with a relative at 10 p.m. on Sunday evening and appeared to have gotten lost then. His car was found shortly afterward in the area.

The search involved a helicopter, drone and search dogs. On Monday afternoon, a Norwegian police helicopter, mountain rescuers and two groups from the defense forces were also called in.

At around 8:30 p.m. on Monday evening the man was found alive. – He is severely chilled, says RLC commander Johanna Carlefred.
