Major League Baseball has released preliminary 40-man player pools for the third edition of Spring Breakout, a prospect showcase scheduled for March 19-22, 2026. The event will feature 16 exhibition games between top Minor League prospects from each MLB organization at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums. In 2027, the format will expand to a single-elimination tournament with champions in each league.
Spring Breakout provides fans an opportunity to see baseball's future stars in action during Spring Training. For the 2026 edition, clubs submitted preliminary rosters on March 5, which will be reduced to official 23-27 man lineups on March 18. These pools draw from MLB Pipeline's Top 30 prospects lists and additional players nominated by teams.
The Dodgers' roster highlights outfielders Josue De Paula (No. 1, MLB No. 15) and Zyhir Hope (No. 2, MLB No. 27), along with Eduardo Quintero (No. 3, MLB No. 30) and Mike Sirota (No. 4, MLB No. 60). Their game against the White Sox prospects is set for March 21 at 3:30 p.m. PT at Camelback Ranch.
The Orioles' pool includes catcher Samuel Basallo (No. 1, MLB No. 8) and outfielder Dylan Beavers (No. 2, MLB No. 69), though big-league camp commitments may limit participation. Outfielder Nate George (No. 3, MLB No. 93) earned the organization's Brooks Robinson Minor League Player of the Year Award in 2025. The Orioles face the Red Sox on March 20 at 6:05 p.m. ET at Ed Smith Stadium.
Other matchups include Phillies vs. Twins on March 19 in Ft. Myers, Giants vs. Reds on March 19 at 1:05 p.m. PT in Scottsdale, Royals vs. Rangers on March 20 at 3 p.m. CT in Surprise, Tigers vs. Pirates on March 20 at 7:35 p.m. ET, Mariners vs. Brewers on March 20 at 2:10 p.m. PT in Phoenix, and Phillies vs. Blue Jays on March 21 in Clearwater.
Notable Pirates prospects include shortstop Konnor Griffin (No. 1 overall) and right-hander Bubba Chandler (No. 2, MLB No. 11). Tigers' Kevin McGonigle (No. 1, MLB No. 2) and Max Clark (No. 2, MLB No. 10) headline their group. Mariners' infielder Colt Emerson (No. 1, MLB No. 9) impressed in big-league camp with 20 Cactus League plate appearances. White Sox outfielder Braden Montgomery (No. 1, MLB No. 36) hit a home run and triple in Spring Training.
