Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France. The leaders reviewed bilateral ties and discussed cooperation in trade, energy and defence.
Modi and Carney reaffirmed their shared objective of concluding negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in 2026.
The two sides agreed to launch negotiations on a General Security of Information Agreement to deepen defence and security cooperation. Carney invited Modi to visit Canada by the end of 2026.
The meeting welcomed progress achieved since Carney’s visit to India in March 2026. The leaders reviewed developments in commercial arrangements relating to LNG, LPG and metallurgical coal.
Modi expressed support for Canada becoming a Dialogue Partner of the Indian Ocean Rim Association.
