Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has explained why he missed the National Assembly vote on the Finance Bill 2026.
Nyoro said he travelled out of the country on Wednesday evening for official engagements that could not be postponed. He noted the vote took place on Thursday at 3:15 a.m. with 122 MPs supporting and 40 opposing.
In total 186 MPs were absent from the session that requires presidential assent to become law. Nyoro stressed he had participated in earlier debates on the bill both in committee and on the floor of the House.
The bill seeks to raise additional revenue of about Sh120 billion to fund a Sh4.82 trillion budget for the 2026/27 financial year. The Finance Committee later proposed reducing the estimates to below Sh70 billion.
