Nevada woman expected to plead guilty in marriage scam

Jiaying Chen, a 33-year-old Chinese woman, is expected to enter a guilty plea in Las Vegas for bigamy and obtaining money under false pretenses exceeding $100,000. Prosecutors said the plea will come at an upcoming court appearance following her June 4 arrest.

Chen allegedly scammed more than a dozen men between 2019 and 2024 by marrying them and then requesting large sums of money. She applied for 14 marriage licenses in Clark County and obtained seven certificates, remaining married to six men at the time of her arrest.

Police said Chen met victims through social media and dating apps before suggesting marriage and claiming she needed funds for sick relatives in China. Victims reported giving her amounts including $40,000, $23,000, and $20,000, with no repayments made after she cut contact or annulled the marriages.

Authorities intercepted Chen during another planned marriage in June after receiving a tip. They found fake documents in the name of Vicky Liang that she used for applications. Chen told police she targeted Las Vegas because it is easy to get married there, and she had lost more than $300,000 gambling at the Wynn casino.
