Nils Åman has joined Djurgården after four seasons in North America. The 26-year-old forward returns to the SHL following time with the Vancouver Canucks organization.
Åman spent six years with Leksand before moving to Vancouver in 2022. He played NHL games in his first seasons but saw his role reduced and spent more time in the AHL. When Leksand was relegated from the SHL last season, he decided against a return to the Allsvenskan.
He said he felt it was not the right step to drop down a league. Åman had planned to stay another year in North America but signed with Djurgården instead after Vancouver did not offer a new contract.
The three-year deal places him high in the lineup, likely as a first or second line center. He can contribute on the power play and penalty kill. Åman noted he would never close the door on Leksand and maintains a good relationship with the club.
