North Korea called for all-out preparations to prevent damage from heavy rain and strong winds on Tuesday as Typhoon Bavi approaches.
The Rodong Sinmun reported that the state weather agency had issued a warning for heavy rain and strong winds through Wednesday after Typhoon Bavi weakened into a tropical depression following its landfall in China.
North Korea expects 80 to 120 millimeters of rain on Tuesday in North Pyongan Province, southern parts of the central region and some areas of Jagang Province bordering China. Locally, 150 to 200 millimeters could fall across South and North Pyongan provinces and parts of the southern region, with winds of 10 to 15 meters per second forecast along the west coast and some inland areas.
The newspaper urged thorough responses to torrential rain and strong wind while maintaining heightened vigilance across all sectors, regions and units. It called for a review of safety response measures, inspection of flood-vulnerable areas and readiness of medical staff for emergencies.
