The Ottawa Senators acquired the rights to goaltender Samuel Ersson from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.
The deal was announced on Friday. Ersson, who previously played for the Philadelphia Flyers, lacks a contract for the upcoming season. If signed by Ottawa, he is expected to compete for the backup role behind Linus Ullmark.
This move could create an all-Swedish goaltending tandem for the Senators. Ersson, 26, grew up in Falun and has appeared in 143 NHL games with an 88.4 save percentage.
The transaction follows Toronto's earlier acquisition of Ersson's rights from Philadelphia. In that deal, the Maple Leafs also received Emil Andrae while sending Simon Benoit and Joseph Woll to the Flyers.
