Chile's winter university admission test began Monday with a record 34,324 registered participants, up 7.2% from last year. The exam runs until Wednesday, June 17, across 49 sites nationwide and opens the 2027 university admission process.
Higher Education Undersecretary Fernanda Valdés noted that the test helps improve scores and expands access to selective programs. “It is not a test that segregates or gives opportunities to only a few,” she said at the opening event held at Liceo Gabriela Mistral in Independencia.
DEMRE director Leonor Varas announced results will be released July 17, before regular PAES registration closes on July 22. Of those registered, 72.85% already sat the December test.
University of Chile academic affairs vice rector Leonor Armanet stressed that the exam adds flexibility to the admission system and eases participant anxiety. Remaining schedules include Reading and Science tests on Tuesday, followed by Math 1 and History on Wednesday.
