State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto is ready to sign the final document of the reciprocal tariff agreement between Indonesia and the US with US President Donald Trump once the draft agreement is finalized. Negotiations are entering the final legal drafting stage from January 12-19, 2026, in Washington D.C. The hope is for signing by the end of January.
In Bogor, West Java, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi gave a statement on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the media center in the Hambalang area. He explained that the US tariff negotiations are now in the final checking and drafting stage by teams from both countries.
"According to the schedule, from the 12th to the 19th (January) this is the legal drafting preparation. Well, we hope that in the legal drafting preparation, those agreements can already be incorporated," said Prasetyo.
The negotiation teams will discuss detailed points in the draft. Prasetyo hopes the final Agreement on Reciprocal Tariff (ART) document can be signed by both presidents by the end of January 2026.
"The hope is that by the end of the month we can sign it. Of course, in the process, we continuously strive to conduct negotiations for our interests," he added.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that all major issues in the ART document have been agreed upon. In late December 2025, Airlangga met with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington D.C. The meeting addressed the finalization of negotiations on the US's 19 percent import tariff on Indonesia.
The next steps include legal scrubbing and document cleanup from January 12-19, 2026, targeted to finish in one week. In the third week of January, the agreement document is expected to be fully completed.
