Panchkula police will verify all delivery personnel and conduct phased checks on street vendors and hawkers. The steps include assigning unique identification numbers to carts and vehicles.
Commissioner of Police Pankaj Nain announced the verification drive after a meeting with resident welfare association leaders. The meeting focused on law and order, traffic management and community policing.
Nain said every individual has the right to earn an honest livelihood provided it is lawful and does not compromise public safety. All delivery personnel will undergo police verification while street vendors will be checked in phases.
Additional measures include installation of CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations and intensified patrolling in sensitive areas. A special meeting with senior citizen representatives is scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m.
Barricades at Majri Chowk will be removed on a trial basis with traffic movement monitored before a final decision.
