Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth is training with a speed specialist to improve his performance ahead of the upcoming season. The move comes after a challenging 2025 campaign. He is preparing to report to training camp in Latrobe by Tuesday.
Freiermuth shared images of his workouts with trainer Dana Barry, who focuses on speed development through velocity-based training. Both are from the New England area, with Freiermuth born in Massachusetts.
The tight end posted disappointing receiving numbers in 2025, with just one game exceeding 65 yards and never catching more than five passes in a contest. Coach Mike Tomlin has described him as a zone killer, and new offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy plans to use more three-receiver sets.
Darnell Washington is expected to handle most blocking duties, leaving Freiermuth to focus on receiving. Other Steelers players, including wide receivers Roman Wilson and Germie Bernard, have also been training this offseason.
