Pershore Tennis Centre seeks approval for four padel courts

Pershore Tennis Centre is applying for permission to replace a planned 'kids zone' with four new padel courts. The proposal aims to introduce the sport to the area, starting with two courts to assess community interest. Funding is in principle from the LTA, with support from local colleges.

Pershore Tennis Centre in Worcestershire is proposing changes to its development plans. Instead of building a 'kids zone', the centre wants to construct four padel courts. This adjustment is outlined in planning documents submitted for approval.

The documents explain: "The change is to add four padel courts in lieu of the Kids Zone, the plan being to build two initially to gauge the reaction from the community and surrounding areas." Padel, a racket sport combining elements of tennis and squash, is gaining popularity in the UK.

The project has secured preliminary funding from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and receives full backing from Pershore College and the Board of Warwickshire College Group. This support aligns with the college's goals to establish a sports academy.

Local resident Chris Perks expressed approval, stating: "I support any improvement to the town's sporting facilities, especially one such as this that brings a new sport to the area. This development will improve the viability of the existing tennis club, bringing in new members, as well as assisting the college in its business plans to become a sports academy."

The initiative could enhance local sports offerings by diversifying facilities at the tennis centre. Community members can review the plans and provide feedback through the planning portal.
