Colombian President Gustavo Petro faced criticism from Israeli ambassador Danny Danon after posting
Petro's post responded to a column by journalist Felipe Zuleta. Danny Danon condemned the use of Nazi slogans and noted that there are limits that must not be crossed. Danon expressed hope that Petro would apologize before Wednesday, when he will chair a debate on the Middle East at the UN Security Council. Colombia holds the Council presidency throughout June 2026. Petro will travel to New York from June 9 to 11 to participate in three high-level debates. Germán Ávila will assume presidential duties during his absence.
