A recent report on the total reconstruction of the Guillermo Plazas Alcid Stadium in Neiva revealed advances in the first phase but also doubts about meeting the timelines set by the Council of State.
Neiva Mayor Germán Casagua presented the advances during a verification hearing on July 8, 2026, convened by Magistrate Ramiro Aponte. He explained that the first phase focuses on the western tribune with a budget of 54.008 million pesos and aims to reduce capacity to between 14,000 and 15,000 spectators.
José Edinson Henao from Universidad Nacional Sede Manizales detailed that demolition is necessary to recover the athletics track and meet technical standards. Demolition is projected for July 2026, although only bidding pre-documents have been published.
The maximum deadline for total intervention is 2031, but projections indicate it will extend beyond that. Phase one must be completed before December 2027, although construction and demolition permits are still missing to legally start works.
