No sign has been found of 21-year-old Zenande Chiloane after the car he was travelling in plunged into the Crocodile River in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. The search and rescue operation has been adjourned after six days.
Zenande Chiloane went missing on Sunday when the vehicle failed to stop at an intersection in KaMagugu and KaNyamazane near the University of Mpumalanga. It went through a fence and into the river.
Chiloane was travelling with Godfrey Virgo and Tintswalo Khoza. The provincial search and rescue team has now adjourned operations.
Family spokesperson Thapelo Mogane said the search remains difficult due to strong currents, islands, bushes and tree shrubs. He noted that volunteers had cut down trees to help the team navigate the area.
Police have used drones and a K9 unit along the river bank as the family continues to hope for Chiloane's recovery.
