On Saturday, March 21, 2026, some 4,000 people according to the Government Delegation chanted “No to war” during a demonstration in central Madrid. Organized by the Asamblea Internacionalista de Madrid, the march went through main streets from Atocha to Puerta del Sol. Protesters shouted against the war in Iran, the intervention by US President Donald Trump, and anti-fascist slogans. They carried banners calling for “Peace” and an end to the military escalation in the Middle East. Podemos MEP Irene Montero attended and urged Pedro Sánchez's government to leave NATO and remove US troops from the bases in Rota, Cádiz, and Morón de la Frontera, Sevilla. “While we are in NATO (...), like it or not, we are making war; while there are US troops in Spanish bases (...), like it or not we are complicit in the crimes of (Donald) Trump and (Benjamin) Netanyahu,” Montero told journalists. She also conditioned her party's support for government decrees to mitigate war effects on expanding aid, capping food and fuel prices, and Spain exiting NATO. “If not, if they take the measures proposed by the PP, we understand they are seeking votes from that party,” she added.
