Spain defeated Peru 3-1 in their final warm-up match before the World Cup on Monday night. Goals from Mikel Oyarzabal, Pedri and an own goal gave the European champions a comfortable win at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, Mexico.
Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring with a long-range effort after just two minutes. Pedri doubled the lead shortly after the half-hour mark. Luis de la Fuente made multiple substitutions at half-time and after 61 minutes. By that stage an own goal from Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese had extended the advantage to 3-0. Peru pulled one back late through Jairo Velez. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said after the match: “We ended up very satisfied, without injuries and with very good phases of play.” Rodri played more than an hour while Mikel Merino made a 30-minute appearance. Lamine Yamal missed the game through injury but is expected to be fit for Spain’s Group H opener against Cape Verde in Atlanta on June 15.
