Spain face Iraq in La Coruna on Thursday night as part of their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Coach Luis de la Fuente has stressed his team will play at full intensity despite concerns over the pitch condition.
The European champions are scheduled to kick off against Iraq at the Riazor at 8pm UK time. De la Fuente said the pitch is being prepared around the clock and dismissed worries about injuries. Several players remain sidelined, including Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, while Mikel Merino continues his recovery from a foot issue. De la Fuente noted positive progress with the injured squad members. Iraq, ranked 57th in the FIFA standings, will be led by striker Aymen Hussein. Spain sit second in the rankings and remain unbeaten in 16 home matches. The match serves as preparation for Spain's opening World Cup game against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta.
