Renowned photographer Steven Klein marked his 60th birthday with about 70 close friends at the Faena New York hotel in West Chelsea. Celebrities including Kim Cattrall, Helena Christensen, and Irina Shayk attended the event on Thursday night. Guests enjoyed cocktails, cake, and dancing into the early hours.
The party took place at the dramatic Faena New York, known for its maximalist style and a Keith Haring mural. It began in the Living Room lounge, featuring leopard prints and 1970s vibes. Attendees sipped spicy margaritas—Klein's favorites with tequila and mezcal—and mini cheese empanadas. Fashion figures like Grace Coddington and Edward Enninful hugged Klein upon arrival, while Joan Smalls and Patti Wilson mingled at the bar. Kim Cattrall, photographed by Klein for a 2002 'Got Milk?' ad and a 2023 Skims campaign, praised him to Vogue. “Steven is unapologetically himself,” she said. “When I look at his photographs they are beautifully savage, and I get a very strong reaction.” Helena Christensen, a frequent collaborator, called his talent “mind-blowing” and his personality caring and honest. Irina Shayk, in an Issey Miyake outfit, wished him health and love, honoring him as a legendary artist. Klein was surprised with a three-layer red velvet and chocolate cake by his partner Joshua Cummings. Before blowing out candles with his 10-year-old son Ace, he shared his wish: “My wish is that creativity comes back to magazines, and for people to follow their dreams and find their sole purpose in the world.” The party moved to El Secreto nightclub, where David Banda, Madonna's son, danced first, joined by Shayk. Susanne Bartsch later serenaded Klein from atop the bar. Looking ahead, Klein revealed plans for his first feature film about New York's dark side, plus more books and exhibitions. “Every year is a milestone and every day, every minute—it’s all important and I’m very happy,” he told Vogue.
