Spain's State Meteorological Agency forecasts a May weekend with July- and August-like heat across much of the country, reaching up to 38 degrees in Badajoz.
AEMET has issued warnings of abnormally high maximum temperatures for the season. Madrid is expected to reach 33 degrees, while Zaragoza will hit 36 and Badajoz 38 on Sunday.
AEMET spokesperson Rubén del Campo noted that this does not qualify as a heat wave in the strict sense, although the values will persist for several days. On Saturday, highs will exceed 30 degrees across much of the peninsula, with peaks of 34 to 36 in central and southern areas.
In the north, a DANA will bring storms with possible hail to Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and parts of Castilla y León. AEMET has activated yellow alerts for rain and storms from the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday.
