Taiwanese rock band Mayday has invited fans upset over the sudden cancellation of a Hong Kong concert to a free rehearsal to ease tensions. The March 24 show was scrapped, with an additional performance added on March 29, leading to more than 100 complaints.
Taiwanese rock band Mayday's record label, B’in Music, announced late Monday that the March 24 concert at Kai Tak Sports Park as part of the “Mayday #5525+1 Live Tour” in Hong Kong would be cancelled, with an additional show added on March 29. Local fans expressed frustration over the lack of priority ticketing or exchange options for other dates.
The Consumer Council reported receiving 111 complaints by 5pm, including 42 from local consumers and 69 from fans outside the city, mostly from mainland China. These complaints totalled HK$296,194 (US$37,860), with the largest local claim at HK$6,700 and the highest from outside at HK$8,000. Out-of-town fans highlighted the absence of compensation for travel and accommodation costs.
To address the backlash, Mayday invited affected fans to a free rehearsal. Hong Kong's customs chief stated on Wednesday that enforcement action would be taken if any laws were breached. The incident underscores challenges in concert scheduling changes, particularly for international audiences.
