German tennis player Yannick Hanfmann missed the quarterfinals at the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg. He lost narrowly to Italian Luciano Darderi late in the evening with scores of 6-7 (7-9), 5-7.
The 34-year-old from Karlsruhe lost at the clay-court event on the Rothenbaum and thus exited before reaching the last eight players.
Darderi had previously defeated Alexander Zverev in the round of 16 at the Rome Masters 1000 tournament. Zverev had withdrawn from Hamburg at short notice due to back complaints.
The world number three is taking a short break ahead of the French Open, which begins on Sunday. In Paris, Zverev is seeded second behind Jannik Sinner.
