Tesla's shift to a subscription-only model for Full Self-Driving software has driven the largest quarterly increase in subscribers in company history. Active subscriptions reached 1.48 million globally by the end of June 2026.
In early 2026 Tesla ended the option to buy Full Self-Driving software outright and moved to a subscription model priced at $99 per month in the United States. The change took effect around mid-February after the one-time purchase price had previously reached as high as $15,000.
Q2 results showed the strategy succeeded. Subscriptions rose 56 percent to 1.48 million, adding roughly 200,000 new subscribers in the quarter. That marked the biggest single-quarter gain on record, according to Tesla’s shareholder update.
More than 55 percent of new vehicle deliveries in North America now include an FSD subscription. The company said the lower upfront cost and easy cancellation option encouraged customers to choose the feature at purchase.
The subscriptions generate about $146.5 million in monthly recurring revenue, or roughly $1.76 billion on an annualized basis. Tesla noted that services and other revenue, which includes subscriptions, grew 50 percent year over year.
