President Bola Tinubu on Monday led tributes to former President Muhammadu Buhari during a remembrance event in Abuja marking the first anniversary of his death. Tinubu said Buhari gave everything he had to Nigeria without reservation.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu at the event. Shettima recalled that Tinubu had sent him to London to support Buhari during his illness and later tasked him with escorting Buhari's remains back to Nigeria.
Former Head of State Yakubu Gowon highlighted the mutual political support between Buhari and Tinubu. Gowon also shared that Buhari once assisted him with his children's school fees while Gowon lived in the United Kingdom.
Minister Atiku Bagudu said Buhari had prayed for Tinubu to succeed him. The Buhari family announced plans to establish the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation and Centre to preserve his legacy.
