Tom McEwen secured victory in the CCI4*-S class at the Defender Bramham Horse Trials on 13 June with JL Dublin. He maintained his lead after a showjumping clear and finished with 2.8 time faults on cross-country.
Tom McEwen confirmed his position as a leading contender for the British World Championship squad. Only one combination completed the cross-country course inside the optimum time on Andrew Heffernan’s technical track.
McEwen said the horse performed well across all phases. “I thought he was epic this morning – jumped really, really well, really smooth,” he added, noting the ground and fences prepared the pair for potential selection.
New Zealand’s Samantha Lissington finished second on Ricker Ridge Sooty GNZ after incurring two seconds of time faults. Sam Ecroyd took third place aboard Bloomfield Manuscript, the only other combination to make the time.
Alice Casburn won the national under-25 title in the same class on her home-bred Topspin, finishing sixth overall.
