Tomb Raider TV series casts Martin Bobb-Semple alongside Sophie Turner

The upcoming Tomb Raider TV series on Prime Video has added British actor Martin Bobb-Semple as a series regular, joining Sophie Turner in the role of Lara Croft. Production is scheduled to begin in January 2026. The series is created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who will also write and executive produce.

Casting Updates

Martin Bobb-Semple, known for his roles in All American: Homecoming and One of Us is Lying, has been cast as a series regular in the Tomb Raider adaptation, according to a Variety report. His specific character remains undisclosed. Sophie Turner, famous from Game of Thrones, steps into the role of Lara Croft, expressing her excitement about the project.

Turner shared her thoughts on the casting: "They're massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can't wait for you all to see what we have cooking."

Previous live-action portrayals of Croft came from Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s films and Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot.

Production Team and Timeline

Phoebe Waller-Bridge serves as creator, writer, and executive producer. Chad Hodge, with credits including Single All the Way and Wayward Pines, joins as co-showrunner and executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken, director of Shogun, is on board as executive producer and director.

The series received the green light from Amazon MGM Studios under former boss Jennifer Salke, who left the company earlier in 2025 amid internal challenges. Development has involved multiple writers' rooms, with reported costs in the tens of millions, as noted by Matthew Belloni of Puck in March 2025.

Production kicks off in January 2026, building anticipation for this Prime Video exclusive. Separately, Amazon is publishing an upcoming Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics, though it has no ties to the TV show.
