Two men stole between 13 and 15 Torah scrolls from the synagogue in Levallois-Perret during the night from Sunday to Monday. The objects are valued between 80,000 and 100,000 euros. Authorities have released images of the suspects.
According to initial findings, the two men entered the building by climbing with a rope. They took only the Torah scrolls and damaged no other property.
Mayor of Levallois-Perret Agnès Pottier-Dumas said surveillance cameras had captured images of the perpetrators. Philippe Cohen, president of the Association culturelle et cultuelle israélite de Levallois, described the act as a “spiritual trauma” for the Jewish community.
Rabbi Chalom Lellouche called it a “criminal” and “antisemitic” act targeting the Torah. The Hauts-de-Seine prefecture reacted on X after prefect Alexandre Brugère visited the site.
