US President Donald Trump has praised Emmanuel Macron’s hosting of the G7 summit and the dinner held in his honour at the Palace of Versailles. He described the event as fantastic and noted the surprise signing of an agreement with Iran.
In an interview with Axios, Donald Trump praised the French President’s organisation of the summit. « Macron did a tremendous job hosting the G7, really well, without fuss or artifice », he said. He added that Macron had invited him a week earlier by asking a favour to come to Paris.
Trump explained he was hesitant to go to Versailles but the location convinced him. « Versailles is, in my opinion, one of the most grandiose places there is », he confided. The Wednesday evening dinner was described as « fantastic » by the US President.
Just before the meal, an agreement ending hostilities with Iran was signed to the surprise of the guests. Minister Roland Lescure confirmed it was a surprise. Trump also noted that Emmanuel Macron « will not be there much longer », referring to the end of his term in 2027.
