Amazonas Civil Police arrested two men, aged 21 and 24, on Wednesday (April 22) for torturing and killing a man in Uarini over an alleged theft of a grill plate. Investigations indicate five people took part in the assault. Two other suspects had been arrested earlier, with one still at large.
The Amazonas Civil Police (PCAM) located the two suspects at their homes in Uarini, in the state's interior, executing preventive arrest warrants and search warrants issued by the courts.
The crime stemmed from the victim's alleged theft of a grill plate from a local business, prompting the group of five to assault him. Despite his injuries, a passing motorcyclist rescued him and took him to a health unit, where he identified one attacker before succumbing.
Two other participants had already been arrested by prior court order. The group will face charges of qualified torture resulting in death.
The arrests took place on Wednesday, April 22, as part of ongoing police efforts against violent crimes in the area.
