Utah couple pleads guilty in toddler's death

A Utah couple has pleaded guilty to child abuse homicide and aggravated child abuse in the 2025 death of their 18-month-old daughter. Prosecutors dropped the original murder charge as part of the plea deal.

Carrie Murray, 32, and Mitchell Murray, 31, entered the pleas in connection with the death of Ruby Marie Murray. They are scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 21 and each face up to 15 years in prison on the charges.

The couple's daughter was found dead in her crib on March 19, 2025, at the family's home in Nibley, Utah. Investigators determined the cause of death as dehydration and undernutrition.

Court documents described the child's living conditions, including long periods alone in a dirty crib with limited interaction from her parents. The Murrays acknowledged providing only waffles and sippy cups as food on some days.
