World champion boxer Tina Rupprecht retires due to pregnancy

The 33-year-old boxing world champion Tina Rupprecht has announced her pregnancy and the end of her active career. At the awarding of the Bavarian Sports Prize in Munich, she stated that she is starting a new phase of life. A comeback as a mother is not planned for the time being.

Tina Rupprecht, known by her ring name 'Tiny Tina' and standing 1.53 meters tall, shared the news at the Bavarian Sports Prize gala in Munich. The woman from Augsburg received the award in the category 'Sports Moments for Eternity.' 'The active boxing career is officially over, because I am starting a new phase of life,' said Rupprecht. She emphasized: 'A comeback as a mom is not planned for now.'

In April, Rupprecht made German boxing history in Potsdam. She defeated the previously undefeated Japanese fighter Sumire Yamanaka on points in the world title unification bout and became the 'undisputed' champion in atomweight up to 46.3 kilograms. She now holds all four belts from the major organizations: WBO, WBA, WBC, and IBF. No male or female boxer from Germany had achieved this before.

'I still feel now: It's perfect. I've arrived where I always wanted to be – even much higher. I'm done,' Rupprecht said at the gala. Outside the ring, the trained pedagogue works part-time as a sports teacher at the secondary school in Zusmarshausen. In the near future, the school will need a substitute.
