Junts rejects supporting PP censure motion and Sánchez budgets

The Catalan pro-independence party Junts per Catalunya announced on Monday that it will not back either the censure motion pushed by the PP or the budgets proposed by Pedro Sánchez's government.

Josep Rius, Junts spokesperson and vice president, said at a press conference in Barcelona that both initiatives are “partisan maneuvers” and “proposals for show that will not help unblock the situation”. According to Rius, neither has any chance of succeeding. Rius repeated Junts’ call for early elections. He stated that “in democracy, when a government loses its majority, it calls elections” and accused the executive of prolonging the term for “partisan reasons”. Regarding Pope León XIV’s visit, Rius criticised the Catalan government for not promoting the use of Catalan during the event and accused Barcelona’s cardinal archbishop, Juan José Omella, of “disdaining” the Catalan language and culture.
