Paris Saint-Germain players were cheered by tens of thousands of supporters on Sunday during a parade on the Champ-de-Mars, ahead of a reception at the Élysée and an evening at Parc des Princes.
The players arrived late from Budapest after their penalty shoot-out win against Arsenal in Saturday’s final. They paraded in front of nearly 100,000 people on the Champ-de-Mars, brandishing the trophies amid cheers and smoke flares.
Emmanuel Macron then congratulated them at the Élysée. The president praised their “unity” and “maturity”, while condemning “unacceptable scenes of violence” that occurred the previous night in the capital.
The evening continued at Parc des Princes in front of more than 45,000 supporters. Captain Marquinhos and president Nasser al-Khelaïfi addressed the crowd. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was named the competition’s best player.
