Person in Västerås ordered to repay 1.3 million kronor

A person in Västerås must repay 1,293,859 kronor to Försäkringskassan after receiving sickness benefits paid out incorrectly. The agency launched an investigation after the person reported improved work ability this year.

The person has received sickness benefits since 2016 due to depression and social phobia. This year the person reported improved work ability and registered with Arbetsförmedlingen which triggered the review. Bank statements showed trips to other cities, travel abroad and ferry journeys plus spending at restaurants, clothing stores, cafes and building supply stores. Försäkringskassan maintains the person should have informed about the improved ability earlier. The agency therefore requires repayment of the full amount according to the decision reported on 4 June 2026.
