Security agencies seized eight stolen motorcycles at the Namanga and Loitoktok border posts heading to Tanzania. Incidents of motorcycle theft and smuggling across the border continue to rise in Kajiado County.
An awareness meeting held in Kitengela last weekend brought together riders, financiers and security officers. The event was organized by Mogo finance company and the Chama cha Usalama wa Waendesha Pikipiki Kenya (BAK).
Kajiado County Police Commander Alex Shikondi said two police barriers helped seize the motorcycles. Two of the bikes came from Kajiado and six from Nairobi. Those with the bikes escaped at night.
Shikondi said in the past four months police have seized eight stolen motorcycles heading to the border. He suggested riders place secret marks on their machines.
BAK national chairman Kevin Mubadi said theft and cross-border smuggling of motorcycles is a major challenge facing the sector.
