Kenha issues 30-day eviction notice to traders along Kamulu-Joska road

The Kenya National Highways Authority has given traders and occupants along the Kamulu-Joska-Malaa-Tala-Kangundo Road 30 days to vacate unauthorised structures on the road reserve.

The Kenya National Highways Authority issued the notice on May 29. It requires all roadside traders, business owners and individuals occupying road reserve land without authorisation to clear the areas within 30 days.

The directive covers estates including Kamulu, Joska, Malaa, Kantafu, Nguluni, Tala, Kangundo Town, Koma Hill, Stage 26 area, Muthwani and Kwa Ndege. KeNHA said the move targets unlawful developments along the corridor connecting Machakos County and Nairobi's eastern outskirts.

The authority stated that the action supports ongoing works such as service road improvements, bus bay construction and drainage rehabilitation. It forms part of performance-based maintenance aimed at improving safety and traffic flow.

Any structures or goods remaining after June 29, 2026, will be removed without further notice. The authority noted that unlawful occupation of road reserves is an offence under the Kenya Roads Act of 2007.
