Stj schedules victim testimonies in case against minister buzzi

The Superior Court of Justice commission has set June 11 for the testimony of two victims accusing minister Marco Buzzi of sexual harassment.

The commission handling the disciplinary case against minister Marco Buzzi at the STJ confirmed the date after consulting lawyers involved. Buzzi denies the accusations and has remained suspended from his post since February 10, when the first complaint surfaced.

The defense named 30 witnesses and stated that those selected will help clarify the facts. In total, 16 witnesses will be heard, including those indicated by the prosecution.

The accusations involve a woman who says she was grabbed during a sea bath in Santa Catarina in January and an outsourced employee who worked for the minister. The case proceeds under seal.

In April, the STJ opened the administrative process. Rapporteur Kassio Nunes Marques also launched an inquiry at the STF based on elements presented by the PGR.

The STF's Second Chamber begins judging the preventive detention of Banco Master owner Daniel Vorcaro in a virtual plenary starting Friday (13). This follows his March 4 arrest in Operation Compliance Zero and the recent cancellation of a Senate hearing. The Federal Police believes continued detention boosts chances of collaboration in billion-dollar fraud probes, while his defense seeks release.

Brazil's Superior Court of Justice (STJ) unanimously opened a disciplinary process on April 14 against Minister Marco Aurélio Buzzi, following a February preliminary inquiry into sexual harassment complaints from two women. Buzzi will remain away from duties pending the outcome, handled by a new commission of ministers.
