The Democratic Republic of Congo has defended its ability to handle Ebola outbreaks as a proposed US quarantine facility in Kenya faces legal suspension and public opposition.

Government Spokesperson Patrick Muyaya stated during a BBC interview that the DRC has been in talks with US authorities since the start of the outbreak. He noted the country’s prior success, including containing an outbreak in Kasai within six weeks.

Kenya’s High Court issued orders on Friday halting any Ebola exposure or treatment facility linked to the plan. The decision followed a petition by the Katiba Institute citing health and security concerns.

US officials confirmed awareness of the proceedings and ongoing engagement with Kenyan authorities. Lawmakers in Laikipia County have also rejected the proposal, calling for focus on containment in the DRC instead.
