Witness declarations end in trial over David Sánchez post

Witness testimony concluded Wednesday in the trial over alleged favoritism toward David Sánchez at the Diputación de Badajoz. UCO agents maintained the post was rigged by political decision.

Over three days, 42 witnesses testified, including nine UCO agents. Most testimonies, proposed by the defenses, came from PSOE officials in Badajoz and defended the legality of the hiring process.

Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Balas of the UCO stated that the creation of the post in 2016 came from a higher political level and directly pointed to Miguel Ángel Gallardo, former president of the Diputación. Several witnesses confirmed that Gallardo supported Susana Díaz in the PSOE primaries.

Separately, General Rafael Yuste declared that the former director of the Guardia Civil, Leonardo Marcos, ordered a UCO report on the case to be altered and that DAO Manuel Llamas told agents to “stay on the sidelines” in investigations with political implications.

On Thursday, the eleven defendants will begin testifying, starting with Gallardo and David Sánchez.
